Quick start guide to Biteable

Biteable gives you everything you need to add video to your communication strategy. Quickly create videos and collaborate with your team using brandable scenes and templates, streamlined editing, and one-click sharing.

Here’s how to get started.

Getting started

If you’ve been added to a team on Biteable, you’ll get an email alert. Click the link in the email or head straight to https://app.biteable.com/social/ to log in.

Once you’re in Biteable, there are three ways to make a video:

Using our AI video assistant. Create your first draft with AI.
Choosing a video template. Just tweak the text and media.
Starting a new video from scratch. Build a video from pre-made building block scenes

Set up your branding

💡 Read your complete guide to setting up your brand

Before your brand colors, logo, and fonts can be instantly applied to your video, you'll need to confirm we've got your branding right. We call this brand set up. We'll automatically fetch your branding from your website, ready for you to tweak.

Once you've confirmed everything looks right, your branding will be saved and applied to every auto-branded video.

You can save multiple brands to your team's account. To switch between brands, hover over your preferred brand, then click the star icon to set it as your default.

Templates

💡 Find your complete guide to templates here

If you start with a template, you’ll choose from a large selection of editable video templates, professionally designed with communication in mind.

To browse our template library, click Templates in the sidebar. This will take you directly to all of Biteable's templates, organized by category. Toggle from "All styles" to "Auto-branded" to see only instantly brandable templates.

When you mouse over a template, you’ll see two options: “Preview” and “Edit video.”

Click “Edit video” to start a new project using that template.

Scenes and styles

💡 Your comprehensive guide to scenes and styles

If you choose to start a project from scratch, you’ll build your video from pre-made building blocks called scenes. Most scenes are instantly branded and are available in a variety of styles for every kind of video and message — from title scenes and backgrounds to animated words and characters.

If you start with an existing template, you can also add additional scenes anywhere in your video. The process for adding a scene is the same either way.

Adding scenes to your video

💡 How to find scenes

To add a scene in Script Mode, click the “Add” button on the left hand side of the screen or by pressing the blue “Add” button that appears when you hover between any scene in the list. You’ll automatically be directed to your scenes.

To add a scene in Design Mode, click the “Scenes” button on the left-hand side of the screen or the purple “Add scene” button on the right of your timeline.

Click on any scene and it will automatically be added to your video timeline.

Scenes are organized into a number of categories, including:

Styles
Basics
Media
Words
Backgrounds
Icons
Characters

Script Mode

💡 Read your complete guide to using Script Mode

Once you’ve selected your template or scenes, edit your video in one of two ways: using Script Mode or Design Mode.

Script Mode is the quickest way to edit any video. It collects the important elements of your video into one simple interface, so you can just plug in your message, tweak the colors if needed, and be done.

If you start your video from a template, you’ll automatically begin in Script Mode, with all the templated scenes ready for editing.

Script Mode makes editing easy — simply add in your text and tweak your color combos for a finished video in minutes.

Design Mode

💡 Everything you need to know about using Design mode

For most videos, Script Mode is the way to go. But if you need to make design tweaks, Design Mode gives you more power to change the small details of each scene.

Use Design Mode to rearrange the visual elements in a scene (text boxes, images, animation) or add more elements.

Toggle between Design Mode and Script Mode at any time.

Sharing your videos + adding a call-to-action

When you’re finished and ready to share your video, click the Publish button at the top right of your screen.

This opens the video export screen. Select “Build video” to start the process.

Once your video is built, the simplest way to share it is with link sharing. Simply click “Copy link” to get a link that lets anyone watch your video.

Send the link in an email, text message, or anywhere else you can send clickable links.

Alternatively, you can click “Download video” to download the video file for sharing.

Add a clickable call-to-action button

💡 Your guide to adding a clickable call-to-action button

Before you send your video, you can also add a call-to-action button to the end. This makes it easy for viewers to take the next step with a single click.

Click “Add call-to-action” to open the call-to-action dialogue.

Add your call-to-action message, text for the button, and a URL where viewers will go when they click the button.

Enable or disable comments

💡 How to enable and disable comments

Gather feedback on your video with built-in commenting. Toggle commenting on or off for each video.

Other members of your team can drop comments on videos before they're published via the Publish tab. Anyone with the link to your published video can leave comments on your video's watch page.

Gather analytics

Lastly, if you use the link sharing option, you’ll get access to Biteable video analytics that show you how many people viewed your video, how many viewers watch all the way to the end, and the number of people who click on the call-to-action button.

You will find your video's analytics in the "Publish" tab of a published video.

Video creation best practices

Once you’re off and running with Biteable, following a few best practices will keep you on the right track as you create videos:

Keep your videos short. A few minutes or less is perfect. Biteable templates are good guidelines for video length.

Keep your on-screen text relatively stable. It can be distracting if on-screen text jumps from one side of the screen to the other between scenes.

Be concise with on-screen text. 10 to 20 words are about as much as viewers can read and process in the handful of seconds the text is on-screen.

Include an intro and an outro scene, even in short videos, to give your audience a few seconds to get ready and to polish everything off at the end.
