Using Record + Record Requests

How do I record myself, or request a recording from someone else?

Biteable's Record tools let you capture video clips directly into your account — either by recording yourself or your screen, or by inviting someone else to send you a clip. Either way, the finished recording lands in your library, ready to drop into any project.

Common Questions

  • How can I record my screen for use in Biteable?
  • How can I request someone else to record a video?

Before you start

Head to your dashboard. Both flows start from the same place in the side nav.

To record yourself or your screen

  1. In the left side nav, click the + button at the top.
  2. Choose Start recording from the menu.
  3. Give your recording a name and click Save. You'll be taken to the Record screen.
  4. Choose how you want to record:
  • Record yourself to use your camera and microphone.
  • Record your screen to capture what's on your display.
  • Upload video if you'd rather use a file you already have.
  1. Allow Biteable access to your camera, microphone, or screen when your browser prompts you.
  2. Click the record button, capture your message, and stop when you're done.
  3. Review the clip, then click Finish to save it.

Your recording is now in your library, under My recordings in the Assets section of the side nav.

To request a recording from someone else

A Record Request lets you collect clips from anyone — coworkers, customers, friends — without them needing a Biteable account. You set up prompts, share a link, and their responses land straight in your library.

  1. In the left side nav, click the + button at the top.
  2. Choose Request recording from the menu.
  3. In the New recording request modal, fill in:
  • Request name — what you'll see in your library.
  • Project description (Optional) — context your contributors will see when they open the link.
  • A timeframe for when you'd like responses back.
  1. Click Next: Add prompts.
  2. Add a prompt for each video response you want. Each prompt is recorded as a separate clip, so contributors can answer different questions for different scenes.
  3. Once at least one prompt has text, a Share with contributors section appears at the bottom. Click Copy link and send the link to anyone you'd like a recording from.

You can share the link with as many people as you like. When someone opens it, they'll see your prompts and a screen to record their responses — same recording experience described above, including the option to record their screen.

To edit prompts on an existing request

  1. In the side nav, click Assets, then Record requests.
  2. Open the request you want to change.
  3. Click Edit request prompts in the top right.

The link you've already shared keeps working — contributors will see the updated prompts next time they open it.

To add recordings to a project

  1. Open the project you want to edit. If you're not already in the editor, head to your dashboard and click the project you want to open.
  2. In the left sidebar of the editor, click Recordings.
  3. Find the clip you want and drag it onto your timeline, or click it to add it to the current scene.

You'll see both your own recordings and any responses to your record requests here.

Note: Record works in most modern browsers and on mobile. Recording quality depends on the device and connection used to capture the clip — closing other apps and programs while recording helps avoid dropped frames.
