Change your account admin/owner

How do I change the owner of my account?

Every Biteable account has a single owner — the person with exclusive access to manage billing and the team. If you're the current owner, you can hand that role over to another active team member at any time.

Before you start

You need to be the current account owner to transfer ownership. The person you're transferring to must already be an active member of your team — if they're not, head to your dashboard and invite them first.

To transfer ownership to another team member

  1. Click your profile menu in the top-right and choose Users (under My account).
  2. Find the team member you want to make the new owner.
  3. Click the role dropdown next to their name (it'll show their current role, e.g. Publisher or Editor).
  4. Select Owner from the menu.
  5. In the Change Team Owner? confirmation, click Transfer Ownership.

That's it — they're now the owner, and your role switches to Publisher. They'll have exclusive access to billing and team management from that point on.

Note: Only one person can be the owner at a time, and only the current owner can transfer the role.

If the transfer doesn't go through

In some cases the transfer can't be completed in-app — usually because there's a billing record tied to the current owner that needs to be moved on our end. If you see an error or the change doesn't stick, reach out to support and include:

  • The current owner's name and email
  • The new owner's name and email (the team member you want to take over)

Sending both up front means we can make the change straight away without coming back to ask. This is also the path to take if you've lost access to the current owner's account (for example, they've left the company).
