Both "voice-over" and "VoiceOver" are commonly used, and there's no single definitive answer.
Technically:
Voiceover: This is the technically correct term, written as one word without a hyphen. It's commonly used in style guides and official documents.
Voice-over: This is also widely accepted, especially in North America. It's more readable and helps break up the phrase, which can be beneficial for some audiences.
Context:
Formal writing: Stick with "voiceover" for a more formal and professional tone. This is a good choice for style guides, academic papers, and official documents.
Informal writing: "Voice-over" is perfectly acceptable for most informal writing, like blog posts, emails, and social media.
Audience: If your audience is primarily American, they might be more familiar with "voice-over." If targeting a global audience, "voiceover" might be more widely understood.
Other factors:
Readability: Consider how the written phrase flows. Sometimes, one format might be easier to read than the other.
Personal preference: Ultimately, you can choose the spelling you prefer, as long as it's consistent throughout your writing.
Additional note: Remember "VoiceOver" with a capital "V" is also a specific accessibility feature on Apple devices used for screen reading. So, in that context, always use "VoiceOver" to refer to that specific software.
