Adding an overlay
How do I add an overlay to my timeline?
An overlay is a piece of media (like an image or video) that sits on its own track above your scenes on the timeline. Unlike media placed inside a scene, an overlay can span across multiple scenes - handy for a logo, watermark, lower-third, or anything you want to stay on screen as your scenes change.
Before you start
Open the project you want to edit. If you're not already in the editor, head to your dashboard and click the project you want to open.
To add an overlay
- Look at the left edge of the timeline. You'll see a column of track icons — the top one is Add overlay (hover any icon to see its name).
- Click Add overlay. The content panel opens on the side of the editor.
- Pick the media you want to overlay — an image, video, or animation from the library, or something from your Uploads tab.
- The item drops onto the overlay track above your scenes. Drag it left or right to reposition it, and drag the handles on either end to change how long it stays on screen.
Because the overlay lives on its own track, it keeps playing across scene boundaries — so a logo placed at 0:02 can stay visible through scene 1, scene 2, and beyond.
To remove an overlay
- Click the overlay on the timeline to select it.
- Press Delete on your keyboard, or right-click the overlay and choose Remove.
